Galleria

Amidst the glut of plush malls in Gurgaon, the neighbourhood Galleria Market in DLF Phase 4 is an exception. The open spaces between the rows of shops and a round pool in the middle give it a spacious and relaxing feel. All you have to do is cross the road opposite the posh DLF Phase 4 City Club to get to Galleria Market. One of the most expensive shopping centres in Gurgaon, Galleria continues to surprise, adding more and more branded outlets at regular intervals. I was introduced to Galleria Market when I first visited Gurgaon seven years ago. It was the only market within walking distance and I would often go there in the morning or evening to buy some household items or sit on a bench by the pool, where the water kept filling the pool with streams of water. Gurgaon today is not what it was seven years ago. The dusty roads have been replaced by paved roads, big trees, better metro network and plush malls. And all these together have made Gurgaon the New York of India today. If Gurgaon has changed, so has the Galleria Market, although some of the old shops selling basic necessities are still there. For example, Super Bakery, Lazeez, La Marche etc. People prefer to visit Super Bakery for groceries and bakery items. 'Lazeez' sells kebabs, rolls as well as fresh chicken, mutton and fish. 'La Marche' is a very posh shop that sells a wide range of expensive bakery items. It has also added a grocery and vegetable section, which makes it even more attractive. Among the chemist shops, special mention should be made of Apollo Pharmacy, 98.4 and Fortis Pharmacy. Most of these shops still exist and are going strong. One might wonder why I am stressing that they still exist. This is because most shops in Gurgaon are temporary in nature. Very few shops last long, giving way to newer and better shops. The fact that these shops still exist proves that there must be some goodness in them. Whenever I visit Gurgaon, I find some shops missing in Galleria Market, although many new and fabulous shops have opened in their place. There is a lot of movement of Independent Call Girls Gurgaon in the market shops. There is something about this market that compels everyone to visit it – young or old. When I feel sad, I head to Galleria Market, maybe on the pretext of buying some medicines or some knick-knacks. When I take a few rounds of the market and eat some soft steamed corn or steamed chicken momos from 'Pik Nik' or do some window shopping at shops like Fabindia, Marks & Spencer, Body Shop, Handloom House and many more, my mood always brightens up. Galleria Market is not just for fun and colourful crowds. It also has a post office as well as a Canara Bank and a Kotak Mahindra Bank where serious work is done. There used to be an Axis Bank here, but now it has moved to the nearby Cross Point Mall.

If you run out of cash, you can visit Citibank/Kotak Mahindra/Stanchart ATMs to withdraw money. And god forbid, if you forgot to bring your debit card and all you have is your smartphone, don't worry as even the tiniest paan shop will accept money via Paytm. Now coming to the best part of the market - its cafes. Let's start with the hot beverages. Apart from Barista and CCD, there is 'Chaayos', which is always crowded. On the top floor, one can find 'Farm Out Cafe'. 'Wander Lust' on the same floor, which serves beverages and food, has a homely cozy atmosphere where you can sit on bean bags/low stools/proper chairs or even on carpets. To pass the time, one can read books from its library or play scrabble or other games. I was very excited to find a copy of the book 'Eat My Globe' by renowned food blogger Simon Majumder in its library. Khan Chacha, Sakleys, Big Wong, Uptown, La Marche Cafe, Crusty Pizza, Fat Lulu's, Crazy Noodles, Chef Style, The Burger Factory, Auntie Fung's - to name a few, are some of the modern-style food joints where you can enjoy your meal in comfort. The recently opened shops in Galleria Market reminded me of the Khan Market in New Delhi. The Khan Market I saw in the sixties and seventies is very different from today. The calm and serene neighbourhood Khan Market of my youth has now been replaced by a plush crowded bazaar with branded shops like Galleria Market in every nook and corner. What attracts me the most in Galleria Market is the round pool with shops all around it. It gives me the feel of a bazaar in Europe and I never miss a chance to sit by its side or stroll around it. During winters, sitting on the benches and sunbathing is a pleasure. During summers, the elevated embankment around the pool is the best place to sit as the cool breeze from the pool is very soothing.
