Gurugram, the 'Millennium City', known for its ugly multi-storeyed glass buildings, multinational agencies, lack of infrastructure, cobbled streets (only potholes and no roads at some places!), fancy sounding British and American names of housing societies goes. goes . , etc., basically a solid forest.
I was a little late to reach the sanctuary (end of March), but the weather has been nice even in March this year, so I was still able to see a lot of birds. There were few visitors and I was able to enjoy the serenity of this place.

Visitors should not confuse this Sultanpur with another Sultanpur located in South Delhi. Two American women who visited the place were taken in their taxi to Sultanpur in Delhi and half their day was wasted.
Due to my limited knowledge of birds, I had Black Drongo, Cormorant, Egret, Green Bee Eater, Indian Magpie Robin, Indian Pond Heron, Peacock, Purple Heron, Red Wattled Lapwing, Purple Swamp, Spot Billed Duck and White Breasted . Kingfisher among others.
But few people know that Gurugram is a paradise for local and migratory birds nestled in a corner of the district called Sultanpur National Park (earlier known as Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary). It is just 15 km away from Gurugram area on Gurugram-Farukhnagar road.
In fact I could count over 30 kingfishers during my visit. The best was when I captured this peacock in its vibrant colors.
There are several watchtowers inside the sanctuary. Everything is closed except one. I was able to climb on it and get a bird's eye view of the entire bird sanctuary.

Sheesh Mahal Palace was built by Faujdar Khan around 1711 AD. To reach the palace one has to cross the main market as well as the Delhi Darwaza (gate) and one has to take one between very old houses and havelis.
One cannot know from the entrance that there is a whole palace inside. Although the palace is surrounded by fort walls, now there are no traces of walls in most places.
Although the name (Sheesh Mahal means Mirror Palace) is suggestive of mirror inlay work, over time there is no more mirror inlay work that I could see. There is a courtyard in front of the water channel.
Despite it being the most important monument in Farrukhnagar, I was disappointed to see the state of the monument. Only part of the monument, including the basement, is now under restoration. The rear part is completely dilapidated and the walls are collapsing.

Basements would have been a great place to sit in the summer because there are air ducts (you can't see where this air duct is opening) through which air passes and cools the air in the basement.
I also noticed that there were bottles of wine and other waste materials in the basement. How is this possible when they keep the doors closed for example I had to wait a long time before the caretaker came because he went somewhere for lunch (and maybe a siesta!). He also took my ID card before I entered and returned it when I came out of the premises (maybe this is being done to prevent strays from entering and spoiling the place).
